valp restoration 2008

a photographic record of restoration and repairs to a volvo valp which was bought on my behalf by a friend in Sweden. the man concerned did a lot of pre mot work to get its export license which i am very grateful for. the restoration took about 1200 hours not counting the work in Sweden. i restored vehicle to the degree i did because i show the vehicle, but it also has to be utterly reliable as i tour Europe and Scandinavia quite often.

the two live cables feed each relay which is in turn earthed close to the valp fuze links. two feeds from the relays are paired in a plastic box and routed to the headlamps. the trigger for the relays are connected to the relevant points in the valp fuze

headlamp with new 10 mm cable and earths. i have left the original cable in place throughout the project so that the valps wiring can be put back to normal headlamps and the relays used on two extra off road lamps of high power.

i fit 2 x h/4 quartz halogen bulbs which were 65 watts, which were better than the valps original glow worm bulbs but then i acquired some 130/90 eye ball burners. i guess the cables on the valp may have taken the extra load but the light switches certainly would have burnt out in a very short time. so now i am satisfied with the project which took about two days of rolling about under the valp and trying different routes for the cables.
